ABOUT THE PROJECT
A hot honey that's equal parts sweet and heat.
Hella Hot is a hot honey brand that blends together my home and culture: Oakland's vibrant street art scene and Italian culinary tradition. Infused with Calabrian chilies, this condiment needed packaging as bold and flavorful as what's inside the bottle.
02
THE GOAL
Design product packaging that balances bold visual identity with food industry requirements.
The challenge was balancing creative expression with food packaging requirements. The design needed to accommodate nutritional facts, ingredient lists, and regulatory information without losing its bold, street art aesthetic.
Process
03
MOODBOARD
Moodboard
I pulled my inspirations from eye-catching condiment brands and Oakland’s street art archives.
04
HAND LETTERING
Hand Lettering Exploration
I experimented with mixing the anatomy of the typefaces DX Slight and Estrella Early.
05
HONEY TYPOGRAPHY
Honey typograhy
I wanted to bring honey-like dimension to my typography through highlights and depth. Using an actual honey bottle, I squeezed custom honey letterforms, and the resulting texture brought an authentic, tactile quality that couldn't be achieved digitally.
